Cody, Wyoming. So far, Lizzie wasn’t all too fond of the place – it was nothing like New York. Nowhere near, actually. It was almost terrifying how tiny it was and just the thought of knowing that everyone knew each other. For someone who lived in the city for all her life, anyways. She was sure it would be just as alarming to someone who was going into the city for the first time after living in a little rut like this for their entire life, but in a very different way. Still, she didn’t mind the change of scenery. Despite all that happened, she was happy – at least to some degree, anyways. Being with her dad made things a hell of a lot better and for the first few days, they just spent the time together and in between unpacking would watch a movie or two. She called her mother a few times on the first day, but after that, she stopped really wanting to talk to her. There were only so many harsh words that could be said before someone couldn’t take any more of it. She used to be close with her, but then everything just changed, quickly.
Today was her first day in a new school, and it wasn’t too far into the school year at all, so she wasn’t worried about needing to catch up all that much. She sat in front of the main office as her father worked out things with her schedule, and for some reason it was taking forever. She didn’t necessarily mind the wait though. It gave her more time before she needed to settle into the classroom experience again. She sat back in her chair and looked to the wall with a somewhat blank look on her face, her thoughts getting the best of her. Lizzie didn’t often space out, but in a situation where she had no one to talk to, things just happened. She heard footsteps come from down the hall and raised an eyebrow, looking towards the direction and letting her eyes follow the person, offering a small smile in a sort of greeting way.

Jacob Ryan Tucker lived in a world of depression. It swirled around him like fog and he just couldn't see through it. People didn't understand why he was so depressed. It wasn't like everybody was mean to him. Only Kieran was downright cruel but Jacob just couldn't deal with it. Jacob just couldn't deal with life. Matthias had everything that Jacob kind of wanted. He wanted to be able to talk to people without having an anxiety attack. He wanted to be able to charm people and quickly rise up the social ladder. He wanted to be able to make people laugh and smile. Matthias could do all those things and Jacob just curled up in the corner. When visitors came, Jacob hid in his room until they were gone. Matthias would show off his prodigy piano skills and Jacob only ever played his drums when nobody was around. Matthias hated the drums anyways; Matthias said that the music didn't flow. Most of all, Jacob wanted to be able to see. Apparently the world was full of color and was bright and made everything better. He wanted to be able to walk without his dog helping him along the way. He wanted to have an easier time in school. Jacob pretty much.....wanted the impossible. Jacob was a little bit happier ever since he moved in with Alexa. He got to play with a little baby named Ava, whom he adored. He didn't have to live with Kieran and he got to kind of just do his thing. His parents weren't real happy that he'd chosen to leave them, but they didn't know why. Things were awkward as fuck around Maximus and then on top of that, he had to put up with Kieran. Jake wanted to escape from all that, and he had. His parents still paid for his phone and stuff, but he was finally free out of the house. Matthias had spent four to five hours teaching Jacob how to use the touch screen iphone. When someone wanted to be added to his contacts, Jake still insisted that they do it themselves. He had a hard time with it sometimes. Basically, all he could do was call people. Mattie had wanted him to learn how to text but he wasn't going to fuck around with that. That was too hard for him. Jacob got dressed and him and Alexa headed off to school. Alexa had some things to do so she asked if Jake would be all right, and then disappeared after he said he'd be fine. Jake walked around with Jersey for a bit, and then he headed down to the office. He had to keep all of his stuff in the office because he couldn't use a locker... So they kept it all in there. He walked in and to his sensitive ears, there was a lot of commotion. There seemed to be some arguing about a new kid and then he heard his name, "Just sit down for a second Jake, we'll help you out in just a bit." Jake sighed and sat down on one of the office chairs. He pulled his knees up to his chest and just started petting Jersey. He didn't know what else to do. He wished he knew how to use a locker. Maybe he'd have Mattie or Alexa teach him. word count ;; 564 ! tagged ;; lizzie holloway ! wearing ;; click !muse ;; youth of a nation - p.o.d. notes ;; it wasn't that awkward/difficult

An awkward feeling overwhelmed Lizzie as she realized her greeting smile had been, in a word, useless. The boy had a guide dog, and that was enough for her to tell that he was blind. She swallowed tightly and lowered her eyes to the ground, not saying anything or particularly thinking about anything at all for a few moments. There was still a bit of commotion about her schedule – she couldn’t believe her father sometimes. She loved him dearly, but there were some things that you just didn’t need to get upset about. So what if she wasn’t put in the right class? They were going to have to fix it anyways; there was no need to make a fuss about it. At least, not that big of one. She rubbed her temples as the seconds went on and she watched her dad with a raised eyebrow, a wave of relief flowing over her as he lowered his volume and calmed down. They exchanged a glance and he had this apologetic look on his face, but she offered him a smile and he returned it before getting back to business. She sat up and looked through her purse, pulling out her phone and checking for any new text messages – while she didn’t have new friends quite yet, she had old ones who had promised her some entertainment throughout the school day. God, would she miss them. Why did they have to move so far? Maybe over winter break she could go visit. She was hopeful.
The seat next to her was full and she heard an office lady address a boy named Jacob, who upon looking at, Lizzie recognized to be the blind boy. He was really quite cute, in a sort of teddy bear way. The name suited him. A warm smile crossed her features and she shifted a little in her seat, looking over at him and remembering that no matter how friendly she might have looked, it would depend on the tone for him to sense it. “Hi,” she said, hesitating for a moment. She wasn’t an unfriendly person, and this was a great opportunity to talk to someone while she was stuck there rather than wait impatiently for a text – but something about him seemed rather timid. Would he want to talk to her? “I’m Lizzie,” she added, biting on her lip gently and tilting her head. Her voice was clear, despite the hesitation, and it had a pleasant ring to it. “I’m guessing you’re Jacob?”

Jacob Ryan Tucker wasn't getting much better. He was just barely starting to get on the road to "better". Jake still didn't really know what to do with his freedom from his brother. He kind of wondered where Kieran had run off to. There wasn't much places to go here in Cody, Wyoming, and Kieran was notorious for being at school. The stupid kid wanted to be "king of the school" or something, so he never missed. He'd been missing a lot lately though; however, he'd been there the past couple days. He just missed a few days ago and he'd missed today. Despite everything, Jacob was worried about his brother. Kieran was still his brother no matter what and Jake couldn't stop himself from caring about the kid's well being. He didn't tell Alexa this because he knew she'd explain to him again why he shouldn't give a shit. Jacob noticed that a lot of new kids were coming in and he was curious as to why they were moving to Cody, Wyoming. He'd lived here his whole life and he didn't wanna leave unless Alexa was. Basically, Jacob wanted to be where Alexa was because she was his only friend that wasn't depressed like he was. Matthias didn't really count because Mattie forgot about him all the time. It wasn't a big deal but Jake didn't count Matthias, his twin, as his friend. The only kid that was his friend outside of Alexa was the one depressed kid that he could never remember the name of. There was so much commotion over a schedule across the counter and they were arguing about one class. Jake rolled his eyes as he sat down in the seat. Why couldn't the office ladies understand that whoever they were arguing about didn't need that particular credit, but did need this one? It wasn't like any of the classes were full. That was the blessing of living in a small town. Jake heard a sweet voice to his right and he jumped slightly, not expecting it. He replied, "Hey." What was he supposed to say? It was rather unusual for a new kid to just start talking to the blind kid. Did she really need friends that bad? He looked over at her, probably looking slightly past her. He couldn't always gauge exactly where a person was, which sucked, but that's how it worked. "Hi Lizzie. And yeah, I'm Jacob. I'm guessing you're new? You'll find that the office ladies aren't very accommodating... But the teachers are. These guys are just stubborn as hell." He half smiled. Maybe he had a chance to make a new friend, which would be good. Jacob Tucker could use new friends. word count ;; 456! tagged ;; lizzie holloway ! wearing ;; click !muse ;; jake miller ! notes ;; i agree xD !
