alexa was afraid to admit that she loved her best friend. she knew that she would never be able to tell him, he deserved better than her. he deserved someone with a nice, fresh slate. no babies, no hurt, no her. she wasn't sure how he felt like he could be so destructive and get away with it, though. she hated that he hurt himself and allowed himself to be pushed down by his baby brother who had to be about a third his size. that kid irritated her so much! she could've killed kieran if there were no repercussions. of course, she had a daughter to keep in mind before she went on any killing sprees.
these were the things that crossed her mind at work, and on her ride home from work with ava. now that her parents had moved away, her work had given her more free child care so that she would be able to do what was needed to survive. not having to pay for childcare meant that she would be able to pay her rent and whatever bills she needed with some help from jacob's parents. thank god they were around because she couldn't afford this apartment without them not that her parents had peaced out. she didn't understand how someone could do that to their kid, but she ignored it.
she loaded ava into the car now that she had signed out of her time card and hauled ass back home. she had a habit of driving fast, though she was safe. it was odd to put the two traits together, but she was ultra-aware. she could see a cat walking through an alley way and a dog playing in a field. it was easy for her to see things, so driving fast wasn't that bad. at a stop light just before the entrance to her apartment complex, she glanced back at a passed out ava, smiling to herself. she loved that her daughter looked like her ex, oddly enough. her ex had left her in the dust, but man he'd been cute, and they'd made an adorable daughter.
as she parked and got ava out of the car carefully, she carried the toddler into the apartment. she laid her down in her crib silently and closed the curtain that she and jacob had created in their room for her. when she was sure the child was sound asleep in her bed, she crawled into bed beside jake, smirking. "hey bub." she murmured, looking at the television that jacob could only listen to. "how was your day? did school go okay?" she asked him, curling into his side. jacob was her best friend, one of the only friends that she was able to maintain, mostly because she cared about him more than anyone. "everyone leave you alone?"

Jacob Ryan Tucker didn't like school but that was to be expected by a kid that was bullied and pushed around every single day. Not only did he dislike school, he hated and feared it. It was one of his worst nightmares and he had no desire to get up in the morning and go, but he went anyways. He always went because he knew he had to and there was nothing better to do anyhow. It was either go to school, or lay in bed and listen to the TV all day. There wasn't much Jake could do by himself. He couldn't even make more than a sandwich by himself. He did have his dog, Jersey, that could keep him company during the day, but Jersey went with him to school too. Jersey kept the kids from doing anything too physical to Jacob, but Jersey didn't protect him from their harsh words. Jake was finally in his last class with Jersey laying on the floor next to him. He just wanted to go home and Matthias was supposed to give him a ride, but he didn't think Mattie would remember. Jake loved his brother, despite Alexa strongly disliking him, but man that kid was a pain in Jake's ass. Jacob waited out front for Matthias, and of course, Matthias never came, so Jake bummed a ride off another depressed kid that he talked to sometimes. He couldn't even remember the kid's name but it was okay because they didn't talk the entire ride. The other kid dropped Jake off, still slightly upset that Jersey had had to get in the car. Jacob gave a half smile and waved apologetically as his dog led him up to the apartment. Stairs were too hard for Jacob to navigate, so Jersey led him to the elevator. They went up and made it inside the apartment. Jacob Tucker unclipped Jersey's harness and let the dog roam the apartment freely. Of course, Jersey went straight to the bedroom and plopped himself down on Jake's side of the bed. Jake made himself a sandwich, even though it was a painful process for the boy. He went to the bedroom and turned the TV until he found Law && Order: Special Victims Unit. All he could do was listen to it, but it was enough for him. It wasn't like he could really do anything about it. He was blind, and that was that. Jacob heard the door open, and he smiled softly to himself. It was Alexa Ross, Jake's bestest friend ever. She was the one that stuck by his side and stuck up for him. Nobody messed with her, except Jake on occasion. He liked to give her shit because he knew it made her happy when he was happy enough to tease her. Sometimes when he was teasing her, Jake wasn't even happy, he was just pretending. He was trying very, very hard to be happy but it was difficult. After so long being depressed and suicidal, it was hard to just "be happy". He was trying for his own sake, and Alexa's. He cleared his throat and replied, "Hey!" He was always excited to see her when she got home. Jake loved Alexa and she happened to be his number one favorite person. "It was okay. Mattie forgot me again today so I had to get a ride with that other depressed kid that I can never remember the name of. Other than that, school was all right." He half smiled and wrapped his arm around her. She was so easy to talk to. He adored Alexa and he adored Ava, her daughter. "Yeah. Kieran wasn't at school today, which was good."word count ;; 623 ! tagged ;; alexa ross ! wearing ;; click !muse ;; one direction ! notes ;; he's so infatuated xD !

as long as you're here with me i know i'll be okay
alexa smiled quietly. to her, it seemed that jacob was getting better. it seemed like his brother was laying off and that he was finally starting to feel better about himself and about his life. maybe she was wrong, but getting him out of that house had been a good thing, not only for his sake but for her own sake as well. she needed someone to be around besides ava. she needed a friend that would talk to her instead of trying to avoid her because she didn't have the time or because she was a teenage mom. so many people in this town her fake and two faced. and why? because they could be.
"damn him." she mumbled. lex was sure that the boy probably heard it. when one sense didn't work well (or at all) all the other ones were heightened. that meant that he could pretty much hear everything that she said, even when he wasn't meant to. "i'll have to remind him tomorrow or something." and by that she meant threaten him in the hallway. to be quite frank, she didn't like jacob hanging around people that might give him new ideas on how to hurt himself, or hide that he was hurting himself. the scars that marred his skin across his arms were horrendous. she couldn't imagine feeling so low about herself that she ever did that, and it made her sad that jacob felt that way.
she curled into jake a little bit, closing her eyes. "that's good to hear." she said. "he hasn't been to school the past few days.. right? i haven't seen him around." she tried to keep an eye out for the little shit head so that she could push him around if she had to, but she hadn't really seen him around for a while. she wasn't sure if that was a good thing or bad thing, but right now all she could do was point it out. to jacob, it was probably a good thing, maybe even a great thing. his younger brother was the epitome of evil to the other, and he was one of the primary sources of jake's sadness.
she glanced at the television now, smiling slightly at what she saw. jacob was pretty notorious for law and order after school. it played pretty much constantly in their room, until he fell asleep at least. at which point, she liked to watch la ink and face off. more than anything, alexa wanted to be a tattoo artist or design clothing, although she doubted that it would ever happen. unless you were well-known, you didn't make much money. that scared her. she knew that she needed to be financially responsible for herself and her child, and probably jake one day when she could work full time and she wouldn't have to worry about asking his parents. |

Jacob Ryan Tucker wasn't getting much better. He was just barely starting to get on the road to "better". Jake still didn't really know what to do with his freedom from his brother. He kind of wondered where Kieran had run off to. There wasn't much places to go here in Cody, Wyoming, and Kieran was notorious for being at school. The stupid kid wanted to be "king of the school" or something, so he never missed. He'd been missing a lot lately though; however, he'd been there the past couple days. He just missed a few days ago and he'd missed today. Despite everything, Jacob was worried about his brother. Kieran was still his brother no matter what and Jake couldn't stop himself from caring about the kid's well being. He didn't tell Alexa this because he knew she'd explain to him again why he shouldn't give a shit. "He forgets a lot. It's no big deal." Jake tilted his head confused at her. She didn't seem to like Matthias a whole lot. He picked up on that, easy. In fact, Jake pretty much could tell when Alexa didn't like someone and he knew for a fact that Alexa Ross did not like his twin brother, Matthias Tucker. He always wondered why but he never bothered to ask. It wasn't really any of his business anyway. She had her reasons for not liking his brother, just like she had her reasons for hating Kieran. He knew those reasons, but he just couldn't... Bring himself to hate Kieran. "Be nice to him." Jake tried to give her a stern look but that failed miserably. It always ended in a smile because he liked Alexa a lot... A lot. He could never be mad at her, even if she ever did deserve it. Really, she hadn't ever deserved it, but if she did, he doubted he'd be able to get mad. Guaranteed it would end in a smile. Jake closed his eyes, resting them. He loved when Alexa first came home 'cause all they did was chill. He could listen to Law and Order while she talked to him. He always replied to her, of course, because she wasn't one of those annoying girls that just talked endlessly about nothing at all. That's what Jacob liked about Alexa. She was chill and she just did her own thing, kind of like him... Unless he was getting picked on. He never did stand up for himself. He just took it, and hurt himself later. Alexa was very watchful about that and so far, ever since he'd moved in, he hadn't done it again. He thought about it a lot, but he was trying hard not to do it anymore. Jacob raised his brow and said, "He's been around... Just hiding from you. He's scared shitless of you." He half smiled, not really worrying about it. Kieran didn't bother him as much, because he knew Alexa would beat the shit out of him if he did. It was odd for Jake to have a protector. He knew he needed one but sometimes... He just wished he could do it himself. He wanted to be not helpless for once, but that was impossible. Mostly, Jake just wanted to help out Alexa. He wanted a job just as bad as the next kid. He wanted to drive just as bad as an almost sixteen year old, but he couldn't do any of that... Ever. That was the curse of being blind. His eyes wandered to where he knew Alexa was and he asked, "How was work?" Sometimes, he wished that Alexa didn't have to work so hard, not because he wanted more time with her (though that was part of it), but because she worked too hard with not enough fun. The only "fun" she got was at night, when she got home, and half the time, they both had homework to do. He just wanted to help. word count ;; 666 ! tagged ;; alexa ross ! wearing ;; click !muse ;; one direction ! notes ;; i love these two !

as long as you're here with me i know i'll be okay
alexa rolled her eyes when jacob claimed that it was no big deal. it was a big deal, whether jake wanted to say so or not. she knew it was because he had brought it up. if it didn't matter then it wouldn't be important enough to tell her about, she was pretty much sure of it. to be honest, she wasn't very fond of any of jacob's family. she tolerated his parents because they helped her with the bills. luckily, she didn't have to tolerate his brothers. they treated him like some kind of weight that brought everyone down. like he was a liability and only certain people could be around him and stay sane.
of course, jacob was the only person that kept alexa sane these days. she didn't think that she was doing anything special by being his friend, mostly because she needed him just as badly as he needed her. she didn't need someone to thank her for being his friend or for asking him to live with her. he was a human being and a great one at that. she hadn't ever told jake about that text that she'd received from his twin, and she wasn't going to tell him. he would just have to live with the understanding that she couldn't stand almost his entire family. he didn't blame them, but she did.
"yeah well.. if he's going to forget almost every single fucking day, then he should really just stop telling you he's going to pick you up. i'll ask my boss for an extra ten minutes so i can take you home, kay?" she smiled quietly, closing her eyes. "do you have any homework tonight?" she asked. work had been really slow, a lot of people had picked up their kids early today so she had been able to get a lot of hers done. if jacob didn't have any, then she would be extremely excited. she rolled her eyes when he told her to be nice to his brother. "i'll try. no promises." she murmured, kissing his lips once gently.
she couldn't refrain from that kind of gesture. it didn't happen a lot, but sometimes she just let it happen. they were having sex, right? so the occasional kiss wouldn't be misinterpreted, right? she hoped not. she loved him, but she didn't want him to know. alexa knew that if jacob knew her feelings for him, that he would feel guilty or something of that sort and want to be with her. when the other mentioned that kieran was hiding from her, she couldn't help but chuckle. "good. he should be afraid of me. i'll snap him in half like the twig he is." she wished that jacob could see her facial expressions.
"work? work was okay. kind of slow. i got a lot of my homework done.. i worked with the older kids today so i didn't really have to do much. just make sure nobody caught anything on fire or got stuck in the toilet." she grinned, her breathing matching his easily as they lay curled together. "what've you been doing since you got home?" she asked, index finger drawing circular patterns on his chest. |
